Job readiness skills and Employability skills
Job readiness skills are the skills that are meant to be there in a person who is seeking a job. Employers these days are quite demanding, and youth in India is suffering from an unemployment problem due to a huge gap between job readiness skills and employability skills. But what does it mean when we talk about job readiness skills? What are the essential skills that fresher needs the most or must have? Most entry-level jobs need some sort of skills like good communication skills, a creative approach, the willingness to work in a team, some sort of higher learning ability, and a person who is a self-starter. These are the basic skills that are not only required by most employers but also distinguish one job seeker from another.
Employability skills can be transferred depending on the situation. Candidates who have job readiness skills are deemed to be fit for most kinds of employment than persons who lack job readiness skills. The confidence level of abled job-ready candidates is way beyond others which most employers prefer for their organization’s growth. There is nothing wrong with a person who lacks skills for a job. A well-skilled person is preferable but anyhow job training may pave the way for the youth of our country to achieve significant success in careers and yield the youth with the real workplace skills that are desirable at the workplace.
In this 21st century, most candidates take up internships with their studies. These internships make them more confident and they are much more knowledgeable than before. The government has also started schemes to promote before-the-job training and on-the-job training so that the talented youth of our country is not deprived of necessary skills. The labor market in India is not regulated, unlike in the U.S.A, Canada, etc. Developed nations have strong labor laws and regulations which is why the students abroad not only focus on academics but also focus on developing skills through extra co-curricular activities and internships. These activities inculcate in them job-ready skills.
Every person is unique in skills. There is no dearth of skilled talent in our country and that is the reason behind the brain drain of our country. Most of the skilled youth don’t get their desirable dream job, so they are forced to leave the country and look for job opportunities in developed nations like the U.S.A, Canada, the U.K, etc. Anyhow the latest government is taking up necessary steps these days so that our talented youth is ready with workforce skills and employers also hire the right kind of candidates for the right roles. Also these days some NGOs are coming in front to provide the youth ample opportunities for being job ready. One such organization Badhta India conducts training programs and provides free online courses to enhance the skills of students from challenged background. Many volunteers are organizing various campaigns and are trying to reach out to underprivileged persons for educating them for a bright future. Last but not least even though job-ready skills are not inborn skills but good training and education can inculcate necessary skills in anyone who has the willingness to learn.
